Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how the STB Elite app (“STB Elite”, “the app”, “we”, “us”) handles information. STB Elite is a media player for LG webOS TVs, Samsung Smart TVs and Android devices (phones, Android TV and Fire TV). It is published by STB Elite.

Summary

  • We have no user accounts, no ads and no analytics or tracking tools.
  • The details you enter are stored on your own device. To manage the free trial and device activation, the app sends us an anonymous device ID, basic device details and the MAC address you entered (see “Free trial and device activation”).
  • The app connects directly from your device to your own provider. The one exception is Samsung TVs, where the app’s requests to your provider’s portal pass through our relay server without being stored (see “Samsung TVs: portal relay”). Video never passes through STB Elite servers.
  • We do not sell or share your personal data.

Information stored on your device

To work, the app stores the following information locally on your device only:

  • the portal URL you enter (provided to you by your provider);
  • the device MAC address used to sign in to your provider’s portal;
  • a display name you give the portal;
  • your favourites; and
  • your app preferences (settings).

Apart from the details listed under “Free trial and device activation”, this information is not sent to us, and we cannot see or access it.

Free trial and device activation

STB Elite offers a free trial on each device, after which the app must be activated. To manage this, when the app starts (and from time to time while it is used) it sends the following to our activation service:

  • an anonymous device ID, created by the app as a one-way hash of the device’s own identifier (the raw identifier is never sent), and the short device code shown in the app;
  • the type of device (for example LG webOS, Samsung Tizen, Android), its model name and the app version;
  • the MAC address you entered for your provider, so that we can recognise your device when you contact us; and
  • the dates the device was first and last seen, and its trial or activation status.

We use this information only to run the free trial, activate devices, help you when you contact support and prevent misuse. It is not used for advertising and is not sold or shared, except with the service provider that hosts our activation database (Supabase), which processes it on our behalf. Your portal URL, favourites and the content you watch are not sent to us.

Information sent to your provider

When you use the app, your device connects directly to the provider whose portal URL you entered. As part of that connection, your provider receives your MAC address and your device’s IP address, along with the requests needed to show channels, guides, movies and series and to play them. This is the provider’s own data processing and is governed by your provider’s privacy policy, not this one. STB Elite has no relationship with your provider and no control over how they handle data. Please check their policy or contact them with any questions.

Samsung TVs: portal relay

Samsung TVs do not allow apps to send the MAC address to a portal in the way portals expect. On Samsung TVs only, the app therefore sends its requests to your provider’s portal through our relay server, which forwards each request to your provider and passes the reply back to the app. These requests contain your portal URL, your MAC address and the information needed to show channels, guides, movies and series.

The relay handles these requests only while forwarding them. It does not store them and does not log your portal URL, MAC address or what you browse or watch; it keeps only anonymous counts of requests, and your device’s IP address is used briefly to prevent misuse. Videos are always played directly from your provider and never pass through the relay. The relay runs on a server hosted by Oracle Cloud Infrastructure in the United States, which provides the infrastructure on our behalf. On LG, Android and other devices the relay is not used.

No tracking, ads or data sales

STB Elite does not include advertising, analytics or tracking SDKs. We do not create user profiles, and we do not sell, rent or share personal data with anyone.

Retention and deletion

Information is kept on your device until you remove it. You can delete it at any time by:

  • removing the portal in the app, which deletes the stored portal details; or
  • uninstalling the app, which deletes all data the app has stored on the device.

Activation records (described above) are kept while the device uses STB Elite and deleted on request: email us your device code and we will remove it. For data held by your provider, please contact your provider.

Children

STB Elite is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Security

Information on your device is protected by your device’s own security. Activation details are sent over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection and stored in a database that only our administrators can access. Connections to your provider use whatever protocol your provider’s portal URL specifies.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we update it, we will change the effective date above.
